Why Art?
Art, for me, is an interpretation of how you see the world around you and then letting that interpretation become the muse. The choreographer, Larry Keigwin, exemplifies this for me. He says, he gets inspiration from his dancers, human relationships, and public observations. He uses the world around him to create his work. This makes it meaningful for him and also the audience can feel a connection to his inspiration. I want my art to be relatable like Keigwin’s is. I believe art should create a sense of community when people view it. Even if my art sparks different emotions in everyone, I want them to feel a shared connection to the piece. In today’s society partisan I think it is important for people to find a common ground. The mission for my art is to give people the opportunity to relate to others.
Reflection
This semester I did a variety of projects, I studied my favorite artist Kehinde Wiley and used his political message to inspire a political cartoon. I was unsuccessful with finishing the cartoon because I did not have the skill set to finish it. I spent all my time trying to figure out how to use Photoshop. I was enriching for me to struggle through the program, but in the end, I knew I needed to make a finished product for the class. I was tasked with creating a website for the Restorative Justice Team and decided to use my time in Advanced Digital Arts. Therefore I would have more time to work on the website. It would be a more refined product because I would have the support of my teacher and peers guiding me to create a more cohesive site than doing it on my own.
I chose to use Wix, a website builder I had no experience with so I could learn more about website formatting. I struggled in Wix because it gives you a blank slate to work with. Previously, I have only worked with Weebly which has less flexibility and is easier for novice graphic designers to work with. I overcame my struggles with Wix with the assistance of my teacher and classmates who are familiar with the project. I am finished with the site, but I will continue to edit and adapt it as the Restorative Justice Program at my school changes.

Political Cartoon Attempt
My idea for this political cartoon was the appointment of Justice Brett Kavanaugh. I was going to have these quotes coming from the Supreme Court. My intention was to make the Supreme Court look like a frat house because in my opinion Justice Kavanaugh behaved like a frat boy. during his Senate Confirmation Hiring.
I disagreed with his nomination and appointment due to his actions towards Christine Blasey Ford. My message was to show the oxymoron of having a man who has broken the law, now interpret the law at the highest level.
