Project Description
In this project Roxy gave us the power to create our own project. We started out by researching and finding inspiration for art piece to create. I went on Pinterest and found a variety of things that caught my eye. I finally decided to press flowers because I love spring flowers and love the outdoors. I appreciate how much free rein Roxy gave us on this project because over all I think my peers created very impressive artwork that reflected themselves.
Artist Statement
I created pressed pansies and put them in an antique frame. I found my inspiration from spring flowers and my love of nature. I researched pressing flowers on Pinterest and I discovered that thin flowers are easier to press. Therefore, I used pansies because they are easy to press because they are flat. I started this project by buying flowers. I then, chose the book pressing method. I used my book, Les Miserables, because it is 1,463 pages long. Every hundred pages I placed the pansies. After that, I put ten books on Les Miserables and I waited a week to check them. After a week I checked the flowers. Next, I placed the flowers that pressed the best into my antique frame. Finally, I organized the flowers in the frame while thinking about color, shape, and proportion.
Reflection
I really enjoyed this project because I learned so much about creating your own original art. I had no background knowledge about pressing flowers. Therefore, I did not have a pre assessment. I was pleased with my final project because I think it looked very refined. I followed the project tracker very well and I met with Roxy every week to ensure I was on the right track. In conclusion this project made me grow as an artist because I now have more confidence in my ability to create a quality piece.

Environmental Documentary Project
4/12/16
In this project we combined Digital Arts and Freshman Physics classes. In Physics we found local environmental issues and researched them. The topic I chose was how heavy metals on our river are affecting fish. I researched metals such as Cadmium, Zinc, And Arsenic and what side effects they give to fish. Also, My group and I had to interview people in the community who were impacted by this issue in our community. Then, In Digital Arts we learned about how to make a documentary. We specifically learned about lighting, camera angles when filming interviews, and how to professionally interview someone. I combined all the knowledge I learned and made a documentary.
Inquiry Questions
What problem-solving skills (21st Century) are employed in making works of art?
I think the 21st Century that are used in art are communicating and imagination. Artist have to be able to show their audience a piece that has a message and it also has to be creative.
Why do Artists Produce Preliminary Plans? (sketches, brainstorms, storyboards, etc?)
Artist make preliminary plans so they can have make simple refinements before they actually produce there piece. Also, it gives the artist some sort of directive to follow.
How is art used in everyday life?
Art is used everyday to produce a message. Artist use art to emphasizes a point it can range anywhere from an emotion to historical event.

Stop Motion Project
2/18/16
2/18/16
Our class stated this project by learning about the photography composition rules. These rules include the rule of thirds, golden sections, diagonal rule, balancing elements, symmetry, and patterns. After that we learned lighting techniques. I learned this by watching some very informative videos. Next my class started this project by forming a group. Then, we brainstormed ideas on what our stop motion should be on. Next, we started to draw our idea while taking pictures of each steps we completed. Afterwards, I uploaded the images and resized them on Photoshop. I took these resized images and uploaded them to Flash where I created a stop motion video. While I was using flash I changed the frame rate to 24.00. Finally I saved this stop motion as a video, gif, swf.
LOGO Project

Project Reflection
In this project I learned what goes into creating a logo. For example, how most logos start as simple sketch. After this project I am going to take away a new appreciation for for the time it takes to create a quality logo. I made a fairly simple logo and it took me about a week of class to create it. My personal connection to my logo is the fonts. The A in Amaya Holliday is in a more whimsical font and the rest of my name is in a more bold font. This shows how I create be serious, yet light-hearted. In conclusion, this project helped better my understanding the role of logo design in our world. |
Self Portrait Project
12/11/15
To what extent does a work of art depend on the viewer’s point of view?
The artist can only do so much to their artwork in order to get a point across, it ultimately ends up to the viewer's point of view. For example, in Max Beckmann, Self Portrait with a Cigarette when I first saw it I saw a angry man and in reality the artist was trying to show himself as a successful business. Everyone interprets things differently, but the artist can make subtle thing to the theme of the artwork. Such as, the colors the artist uses or the shape they make.
How are the characteristics and expressive features of art and design used to create a self-portrait?
The characteristics and expressive features of art and design are used to create a self-portrait because they are their to show the artist point of view. Color is a characteristic that can show the mood of a art piece because if you use dark colors you are probably trying to show sadness or a crimson to show angry. Also, an expressive feature can be lines. For example a jagged line can express a harsh emotion. While, a curved line can make the piece seem more whimsical.

Teacher Creature Project
11/20/15
My Reflection:
At the start of this project I made a survey and sent it to the teacher I wanted to turn into a creature. Then I found eight other images to add with my teacher to make the overall project look cooler. The hardest part of my project was refining the edges. I had trouble using the quick selection tool while still having a polished piece of art. I had a hard time selecting the Friends cast because the the image was a hard shape to select. I persevered through this by asking peers around me how to refine my edges. I found that when you have a piece selected, you can look at the top of the page and you can click on a button that says refine edges. In there you can alter the feathering, radius, contrast, smoothness, and contract/expand the selected image. I learned that my style as an artist is comical gone random. I thought it was very funny that my humanities teacher was photoshopped as Pop sensation, Beyonce next to random garden gnomes. Proportion and Color are the two Elements of Art I used to make my Teacher Creature Project. In my last photoshop project the images I added onto the background were not proportional and in this project I focused really hard to make my images proportional. I used color when I was putting my teacher, Sara Price, head on Beyonce’s body due to the fact they have different skin tones. Although I learned a substantial amount about Photoshop in this project, I had a blast because I got to learn more about my teachers and make them any creature I wanted.
